Debbie Dobbs, Secretary
Debbie Dobbs grew up in Gulfport, Mississippi, but has lived in the Plano area for 30 years. She has been the youth and music secretary at CUMC since 1993. She and her husband, Ted, met when they were 16, and they have two children and a dog named Hershey. Their son, Tad, is married to Nicole, and their daughter, Samantha, is a senior at Texas Tech. Debbie loves working in youth ministry because of the way it impacts kids’ lives. In fact, her family joined Christ Church in 1998 because her daughter was so interested in the youth program. “I feel that youth ministry is so important in keeping teens on the right path at a time when their lives become so complicated, and I’m proud to be a part of that,” she says.
In her spare time, Debbie loves to sleep in, go to movies, take care of her salt water fish, and vacation at the beach. What makes her happiest is spending time with her family and knowing that things are going well in their lives. If given the chance to be someone else or do something else in another life, Debbie would gladly pass. “I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather be,” she says. “I’m happy being me… a wife, a mother, a daughter, a friend!” Debbie loves the teenagers at CUMC and encourages them to “to laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded,” (Bessie Stanley). “Oh yeah…” she says, “and clean your room!”
Debbie is THE BEST, and we are so thankful for all that she does for the youth ministry. If you've ever received a youth or music information in the mail, you've experienced her awesome dedication and service firsthand. Because Debbie is so wonderful, we decided she deserved her own day set aside for everybody to celebrate her!! "Debbie Day" was created to honor her and was officially certified for church recognition by the mayor of Plano on May 19, 2003.
So, mark your calendars! May 19th is a big day for youth ministry... it's the official "unofficial" DEBBIE DAY!! We hope you will join us in celebrating it from now on. Thank you, Debbie, for all you do - we love you!!
