Abe Smith, Associate Minister

Abe Smith, originally from Hot Springs, Arkansas, is an ordained United Methodist Minister and has been serving in youth ministry for more than 13 years.

While in high school, Abe was active in his church youth ministry. Following graduation, he felt God continue to call him to be a leader in church ministry. In college he served as a Young Life leader, a "big brother" for the Big Brother Program, a Sunday school teacher for the Waco United Methodist Home, a mentor for King's Kids, and the Director of Youth Ministries at China Springs Methodist Church. Through these different programs, Abe realized that God was calling him to the mission field of full time youth ministry.

After completing his Bachelor of Science in Education at Baylor University, Abe returned to Hot Springs and worked as the Director of Youth Ministries for First United Methodist Church. He served there for four years and loved being involved in the lives of young people. While back in Hot Springs, Abe also helped lead Youth Leadership Hot Springs, mentored junior high students in the local schools, was a Lieutenant for the Lake Hamilton Fire Department, developed youth educational curriculum for the counties TEA Coalation programs, was president of Leadership Hot Springs Class 13, and served on the Chamber of Commerce Administrative Board for Youth Leadership. As Abe spent more time in youth ministry, prayer, and service to others, he realized that God was calling him to ordained ministry.

Abe moved to Texas to continue in ministry while attending seminary at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University; in May of 2006, he received his Master of Divinity.

Currently, Abe serves as Associate Minister at Christ United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas. He oversees both the youth ministry and Full Court contemporary worship.  Since beginning his ministry at CUMC in 2002, Abe has enjoyed expanding youth mission opportunities, growing and training the adult leadership team, leading various trips and retreats, and building countless meaningful relationships. Within the community, Abe speaks with youth at schools and various organizations, consults with churches and non-profits, and serves as a chaplain for the Plano police/fire department.  In looking to his future, he is eager to continue the work God has called him to do.

Abe is happily married to his loving wife, Amy. Amy is also a graduate of Baylor University and Ouchita Baptist University and owns her own Kumon Learning Center. Abe and Amy met as leaders in Young Life and continue to work as a team serving Christ in their daily living. They have three beautiful daughters, Abigail Grace, Anna Elizabeth ("Anna Beth"), and Addison Elyse, and one son, James Abram. Whether it is walking in the park, playing in the backyard, or grocery shopping, Abe loves spending time with his family and is thankful for their faithful support.
